LinkedIn connection

A profile's LinkedIn connection is the permission, given through LinkedIn's own sign-in, for Scripe to publish for that profile and read its private numbers. A profile exists in Scripe with or without it: you can write, plan and analyse public results without a connection, but nothing is published until the profile is connected.

Private results: impressions, profile views, followers gained, saves, sends, link clicks, video viewsYesNo, shown as a dash

Only the profile's own connection unlocks its private results. Nobody else's connection can stand in for it.

Connecting a profile

When you add a profile you choose Connect LinkedIn or paste the profile's LinkedIn URL. To connect later:

  • Open the profile's settings, then General, and press Connect LinkedIn. See Profile settings.
  • On Home and in Analytics, a dash where a private figure would be comes with a link to connect.

Scripe sends you to LinkedIn, where you sign in with the profile's own LinkedIn account and approve access. Connect while signed in to LinkedIn as that person: if your browser is signed in to someone else's LinkedIn, sign out there first.

Signing in to Scripe with LinkedIn is a different thing. It only lets you sign in, and connects no profile for publishing.

Profiles added by URL

A profile added by pasting its LinkedIn URL has no connection. Scripe reads what LinkedIn shows publicly: its posts and follower total, refreshed about once a day. That is enough to plan and to see its public results on Home and in Analytics. Impressions, profile views and the other private figures stay empty until the person connects their own LinkedIn.

When the connection ends

A connection does not last forever. LinkedIn ends it after a period of time, or earlier when the person removes Scripe's access in their LinkedIn settings. The profile then shows Reconnect required, and the sidebar marks it on the profile's picture.

Scripe emails the users assigned to the profile:

  • "Action Required: LinkedIn Connection Expiring": posts are scheduled in the next 8 days for a time after the connection runs out. Reconnect before then and they go out as planned.
  • "Urgent: LinkedIn Connection Expired": the connection has ended. Scheduled posts, which the email lists, will not be published until you reconnect.

Do I have to act?

Yes, if the profile has scheduled posts or uses team engagement: nothing is published for it until it is reconnected. If you only use the profile to write and plan, nothing breaks; reconnect when you next want to publish.

Reconnecting

Open the profile's settings, General, and press Reconnect, or use the button in the email. Sign in to LinkedIn as the profile's owner and approve. Scheduled posts that are still in the future go out as planned once the connection works again.

When it goes wrong

Company pages

A company page publishes through the workspace users who are admins of the page on LinkedIn and have connected their own LinkedIn. If one admin's connection ends, Scripe publishes through another working admin. When none is left, connect or reconnect one of the admins' own profiles.
