LinkedIn banner size: 1584 × 396 pixels
LinkedIn recommends 1584 × 396 pixels for the cover image on your profile, as a JPG or PNG file under 8 MB. That is a 4:1 shape, four times as wide as it is tall. The same image is also called the banner or the cover photo, and LinkedIn's older help pages call it the background photo.
LinkedIn says the cover image sits behind your profile photo and may look different depending on the browser window and the screen. Keep text and logos away from the edges and from the part your profile photo covers, then check your profile on a phone and on a computer after you upload it.
One cause of a blurry banner is a picture with fewer pixels than the banner, because it has to be enlarged to fill 1584 × 396. Start from a picture at least 1,584 pixels wide; the cropper warns you when it would enlarge yours. LinkedIn's own advice for a blurry cover is to choose an image with a larger file size, and it notes that photos look better than images with logos.
With some Premium plans (LinkedIn names Premium Business, Sales Navigator and Recruiter) you can add up to five cover images as a slideshow; free members upload one.
LinkedIn post image size
LinkedIn recommends images 1,080 pixels wide for posts. A photo must be at least 552 × 276 pixels, its shape can range from 3:1 (wide) to 4:5 (tall), and the file can be up to 5 MB. A photo wider than 3:1 is centered and cropped to fit.
Which shape to choose: in Scripe's LinkedIn Trend Report 2026, among 290,000 single-image posts from 2026, portrait pictures earned 1.06× and landscape pictures 0.96× the engagement of the same author's other pictures. These are associations, not a promise. The cropper offers 1080 × 1350 for portrait, the 4:5 shape at the width LinkedIn recommends, and 1080 × 1080 for a square.
You can add up to 20 photos to one post. In a post with several, LinkedIn shows each image at most 4:5, lays the post out by the first image you upload, and may crop the images in the second row. Uploaded photos can't be resized after they have been posted, so crop before you post.
Company Page cover and logo sizes
LinkedIn gives 1512 × 256 pixels for a Company Page cover image and 400 × 400 for the logo, which must be at least 268 × 268. Every Page image must be a PNG or JPEG of 3 MB or less, and LinkedIn suggests a high-resolution JPEG rather than a PNG for the best quality.
The cover may be trimmed to fit the screen, so LinkedIn advises keeping key details away from the edges, especially the lower-right corner, and putting important information in the center. A transparent logo is shown on a white background.
A Page with Career Pages also has a Life tab: its main image is 1128 × 376 pixels, a custom module 502 × 282 and a company photo 900 × 600, at least 264 × 176.
If a chart gives you another size for the Page cover, it is probably quoting an older version of the same help page. Archived copies of that page show four different sizes since March 2025: 1128 × 191 (copy of 10 March 2025), 1128 × 382 (17 September 2025), 4200 × 700 (26 March 2026) and 1512 × 256 (22 August 2026). Check the help page before you design a new cover.
Article, newsletter, event and group images
An article's cover image is best 1920 × 1080 pixels, and LinkedIn crops it to 16:9; it can be a JPEG, PNG or WEBP file, but no longer a GIF. A newsletter's logo should be 300 × 300 pixels and each edition's cover 1920 × 1080. An event cover can be 1280 × 720 or 480 × 270 pixels: at least 480 wide, always 16:9. A group's cover image is best 1776 × 444 pixels, as a JPEG or PNG.
How to crop an image for LinkedIn
The cropper above saves your image at exactly the size you choose, without uploading it anywhere.
- Choose the size, for example the cover image on your profile.
- Choose an image, or drop it on the frame.
- Drag the image or use the sliders to frame it, and zoom in to crop tighter.
- Choose JPG or PNG, then download the file and upload it on LinkedIn.
If the part you chose has fewer pixels than the size, the cropper warns that it will enlarge the image, which can make it look blurry. Zoom out, or use a larger image. To see a post with its image before you publish, paste it into the LinkedIn post preview. For Instagram, X, YouTube and other networks, the social media image size guide has the sizes each network publishes.
Posting images with Scripe
When Scripe publishes a post, it first checks every image against the limits of LinkedIn's upload interface for pixels and file size. A JPG or PNG within those limits goes out unchanged. If an image has more pixels than LinkedIn takes, Scripe scales it down to 4,096 pixels on its longest side. If the file is too large, Scripe compresses it, and makes it smaller only if that is not enough. The post goes out once LinkedIn confirms each image.
Scripe is a social media management platform for B2B teams and agencies, built LinkedIn-first; today it publishes to LinkedIn. See how a team plans its LinkedIn posts in the content calendar.
